Pictured in 2005, Singaporean Sylvester Shamy, who is of Japanese and Indian descent, arrived in 1998 to attend Victoria University of Wellington. He then took up a job with a Wellington accounting firm. While most overseas Asian students return home after their studies, some find opportunities that keep them in New Zealand. Increasingly Asian students are not educational sojourners but rather the children of immigrants.
