Dancing sands

Watch sands and pebbles dance on the bed of Pupu Springs as water emerges from the bed. Water flow at the springs ranges from 5.3 to 21 cubic metres per second (average 15 cubic metres per second). The water comes from a huge underground aquifer estimated to hold 1.5 cubic kilometres of water, much of which is the result of underground leakage from the Tākaka River. The water temperature is a constant 11.7°C.
