Story: Life in hot springs
This is a scanning electron photograph of sulfur crystals from Champagne Pool. The crystals are covered with rod-shaped micro-organisms and stringy material called extracellular polysaccharides. These micro-organisms are growing in water at a temperature of 75°C.
