Weka in bush
Weka can be found in bush, scrub and bush margins – especially near streams, wetlands and open pasture where there are diverse types of food. They flick litter aside with their bill to find invertebrates. This weka on Kapiti Island is probably a hybrid of the North Island and western South Island subspecies – both are present on the island.
