Story: Land ownership
In the first three decades of the 20th century the government policies of closer settlement reduced the number of properties larger than 4,000 hectares, while increasing the number of middle-sized properties. There was also a reduction in the number of smallholdings of under 4 hectares. These figures include leasehold properties as well as freehold.
