Story: Lakes
A narrow zone (strandline) of fragments of pumice and dead wood runs along the high-water mark of Lake Taupō. This strandline appeared on 28 December 2006 after stormy weather, and marks the highest level reached by waves.
Strandlines of pumice are common around all the lakes in the Taupō–Rotorua area, and can often be traced for over a kilometre.
