Pīngao

Pīngao

The pīngao (a coastal sedge) bends as it is blown by the strong wind. People fleeing were likened to pīngao in the saying 'Me te pīngao i te tuauru e rere ana i te one' (like the pīngao on the western coast driven by the wind on the sandy beach).
