Kermadec parakeets, Macauley Island

The Kermadec red-crowned parakeet, a subspecies of the New Zealand red-crowned parakeet, is endemic to the Kermadec Islands. Predation by cats and rats devastated the parakeet population on Raoul Island (they are reappearing now that predators have been removed), but they have always been abundant on the nearby Herald Islets and on Macauley Island.
