Working together

Legislation has increasingly given Māori a say on environmental issues. Hōri Parata, resource manager at the Ngāti Wai Trust Board, talks about working with environmental consultants Boffa Miskell on the coastal development at Ōmaha South. They identified issues, then looked for common ground. Key issues for the tribe included access to and protection of wāhi tapu (sacred sites).
