Story: Kaitiakitanga – guardianship and conservation
A woman collects seafood in a flax kete (basket). Using appropriate baskets for gathering food was one aspect of kaitiakitanga. People were expected to follow correct tikanga (practices) when growing, collecting and harvesting food.
