The Dellabarca family, Island Bay

It is likely that ex-gold miners formed the original Italian fishing settlement at Island Bay in the 1890s. In a migration chain that continued into the 1950s, their relatives came from Massa Lubrense and the volcanic island of Stromboli in the south of Italy. For many years, names such as Russo, Meo and Dellabarca were synonymous with fishing in the bay’s Little Italy.
