Irish-born residents as a percentage of all non-Māori, by county, 1878
The Irish did not settle evenly throughout New Zealand. Auckland and the Bay of Plenty were clearly the most Irish parts of the North Island in 1878. In the South Island the concentration of the Irish on the West Coast and in South Canterbury is evident.
