Story: Comics and graphic novels

Sarah Laing on possums (2nd of 2)

Men have traditionally dominated the comics field and women have rarely featured in accounts of New Zealand's comics history. In the 21st century women comic artists are somewhat more visible. Sarah Laing creates short online comics and is also a fiction writer – her 2013 novel The fall of light included graphic novella sections. Laing finds inspiration in everyday activities and childhood memories. Her family's interaction with possums over the years provided great fodder for a series of strips published in 2013 – some funny, some disturbing. Click on the buttons to move through the strip.
