Story: Indonesians
Following the Second World War some Dutch nationals were evacuated to New Zealand from Indonesia. The Indonesians wanted independence, while the Dutch were reluctant to give up their colony. The expatriates pictured here were returning to fight the Indonesian nationalists. Jan Okkerse (behind the oarsman) had other ideas, and returned to marry a New Zealand woman he had met.
