Story: Hydroelectricity
New Zealand’s extensive river and lake systems made hydroelectricity an obvious power source. The first comprehensive government report on hydro was issued in 1904. By the end of the 20th century power stations had been built on many of the sites identified in the report. The stations shown here are those generating 10 megawatts or more in the North Island.
