Suffrage cartoon, 1893 (3rd of 3)

Suffrage cartoon, 1893

In the 1890s, cartoonists gave expression to fears that giving women the vote would turn the social world upside down, reversing the ‘proper’ roles of women and men. In this drawing by a ‘much married’ cartoonist, a domineering woman returns from work to a harassed ‘house husband’ who has had to cook a meal while coping with disruptive children.
