Auckland and New Zealand Company settlers by country of origin, 1840–52

These two pie graphs show the differences in birthplaces for immigrants from the United Kingdom living in Auckland compared with birthplaces for those living in the New Zealand Company settlements of Wellington, Nelson, Wanganui and New Plymouth. A comparison of the two graphs reveals that while the company migrants were over 80% English with a tiny number from Ireland, Auckland attracted over one-third from Ireland and under half from England.
