Edward Hodsell was serving in India before he left to come to New Zealand. Here, he sits with a crocodile trophy. He came to New Zealand hoping to be an army instructor in 1926, but because of a shipping strike in Sydney he arrived too late to put in an application. He took up land in Northland until the depression drove him and his family off.
