Migration to New Zealand, 1900–1919
This graph shows the annual figures for total (gross) immigration, net migration (which takes into account those who left the country), and assisted immigration (where fares were in part paid by the government). It suggests that there was a consistent gain of immigrants in the years up to the First World War, in part because of the revival of assisted immigration, which contributed over one- third of the gain from 1904 to 1914.
