Volcanic activity at Ruapehu and Ngāuruhoe, 1839–2005

This diagram shows the major recorded eruptions of Ruapehu and Ngāuruhoe between 1839 and 2005. There appears to be no relationship between the activity of the two volcanoes. However, they have been inactive for some years – the historic and geological record suggests that they will erupt again.
