Story: Hawke’s Bay region
Most of Hawke’s Bay’s very small area of native vegetation is in the western ranges and around Lake Waikaremoana. Conifer–broadleaf forest – mainly northern rātā, rimu, tawa and silver beech – surrounds the lake. It is protected as part of Te Urewera National Park.
