Moehau Mountain

Moehau Mountain, one of the major landmarks of the Coromandel Peninsula, is also called Te Moengahau-o-Tamatekapua (the windy sleeping place of Tamatekapua). Tamatekapua was the commander of the Te Arawa canoe, and was buried on the mountain. His grandson, Huarere, gave his name to the tribe Ngāti Huarere of the Hauraki region.
