Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway

Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway

The Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway was opened in 1985 on the route of the Paeroa to Waihī railway line. The line was closed and the tracks raised after the opening of the Kaimai Tunnel in 1978. The track leads between Karangahake and Waikino, following for the most part the course of the Ōhinemuri River, but also including a kilometre-long tunnel.
