Gulls feeding at sea

Gulls, terns and skuas make the most of feeding opportunities. These red-billed gulls are gathering over a school of kahawai, which chase smaller fish such as anchovies and pilchards to the surface, where gulls can get at them. White-fronted terns also take advantage of this phenomenon.
