Cape Terawhiti

Cape Terawhiti, on the south coast of Wellington, was the scene of extensive prospecting of quartz veins in greywacke rocks in the 1870s and 1880s. Many tunnels were dug at places such as the Albion Battery at Oterongu Stream, pictured here, but the veins were found to contain very little gold.
