Story: Goats and goat farming
Goats have a remarkable ability to control gorse in hill country pasture, as shown in this trial at Ballantrae, an AgResearch property near Palmerston North. The paddock on the left was grazed by sheep at a normal stocking rate, and the centre paddock by sheep at a high stocking rate. The area on the right was stocked with one-third sheep and two-thirds goats, which have had a dramatic effect on the gorse cover.
