Story: Geothermal energy
Almost 60% of New Zealand’s electricity comes from hydroelectricity. In 2002, geothermal power plants contributed 7%, and there is the potential to double this output with renewed exploration for steam. With the impending depletion of the offshore Māui gas field, there is pressure to find alternative sources of power.
