Story: Geology – overview
These steeply tilted beds of Greenland Group greywacke and argillite are exposed on the coast north of Greymouth. The beds are cut by almost vertical cleavage, which appears as closely-spaced cracks on the outcrop. Geologists can measure the angle between the bedding and cleavage to analyse the way that the rocks have been deformed.
