Story: Freshwater fishing
Most freshwater fishing in New Zealand is for trout and salmon, but some anglers like to fish for other, less widespread, species such as perch. Perch are quite easy to catch, and are a popular way of starting children fishing. The fish were introduced to New Zealand in the late 1860s and early 1870s.
