Trilobite hut

Trilobites from the Cobb valley are the oldest-known fossils in New Zealand. They are marine fossils from the Cambrian period, living about 508 million years ago. The site of the original discovery is called Trilobite Rock, and is now part of Kahurangi National Park. Nearby Trilobite hut is named after the fossil locality – probably the only backcountry hut in New Zealand to be named after fossils.
