Story: Forestry research

Agroforestry

Agroforestry

Sheep graze under trees planted at wider-than-normal spacings on a farm. Agroforestry – where forestry is combined with animal farming – was trialled during the 1970s and 1980s, but has now fallen out of favour. It was found that under these conditions trees grew too fast, resulting in poor wood quality.
