Mānuka scrub interior
Mānuka is one of the most important pioneer plants in the regeneration of New Zealand forests. Its light seeds are spread by the wind and germinate readily in open areas. On Little Barrier Island, a dense mānuka shrubland provides shelter for a ground cover of ferns and sapling trees.
