Story: Forest succession and regeneration
Bracken (foreground) was the first plant to colonise the Hanger. In 1980 it still grew around the edges of the regenerated forest, and in well-lit parts of the interior. Māhoe formed a subcanopy about 2 metres high under a canopy of five-finger.
