Mt Tarawera

In 1978, 92 years after Mt Tarawera erupted, its Te Kanakana Dome was dominated by lichens, herbs and grasses. Small shrubs – including purple-brown monoao and dark green tree tutu – were starting to get established at the edges of the low-growing mats of plants.
