A full net

Taken around the 1920s this photograph shows a happy group with their net full of what appear to be mullet, taken from the sheltered waters of Houhora Harbour, Northland. For decades many fishermen were part-timers. Little capital outlay was required – a small boat and a net were sufficient to catch dinner for the table.
