Farming in Waitōtara valley

The Waitōtara valley was one of many areas in the Whanganui district where the bush was cleared after the First World War. But with the decline of soil fertility and prices for meat and wool, the settlers walked off the land which subsequently reverted to scrub. With oversowing, topdressing and better prices, farming of this country has become viable.
