Guardians of Fiordland

The Guardians of Fiordland Fisheries and Marine Environment share a common vision for the sustainable management of Fiordland. They are shown here in 2005 with the minister of the environment, Marion Hobbs (seated, centre) and Pete Hodgson, the associate minister of industry and regional development (seated, second from right). The Guardians’ proposals for protecting Fiordland’s natural features were adopted by the New Zealand government in April 2005, when it created the Fiordland Marine Area.
