Story: Farmer and grower organisations
In addition to organising shows, agricultural and pastoral associations were active in the second half of the 19th century in providing advice to farmers about crops and new breeds of animals. They organised lectures and demonstrations, and in 1877 the Canterbury association began publishing this journal, the country’s first rural periodical.
