Family pyramid

These children have returned to their family farm in South Canterbury for Christmas. Although most farming families were nuclear, with parents often moving into town when a son took over running the place, the extended family remained important. Grandparents, siblings and cousins would frequently gather on the farm for occasions such as birthdays and Christmas.
