Story: Farm families

Family haymaking

Family haymaking

While farm children normally had chores around the house, at harvest times or during haymaking they would go out to help in the fields. When the hay was dry and it needed to be brought in fast everyone was called on to help. This is Athol Moore’s farm at Utuawai, north-east of Feilding, about 1905. Both men and women are helping out and on the right is Mrs Moore and her two children, Will and Patrick.
