Claris family on their farm

Claris family on their farm

In the bush areas of the North Island, where holdings were smaller, the family became crucial to the operation of the farm. Here the Claris family pose in front of their newly-cleared land at Waiteika Road, Ōpunake, Taranaki about 1902. The parents, William and Emily, are accompanied by (from left) Warwick, Maurice, Millie, Mercy, and the oldest son, Hollie. All, plus dogs, would have worked around the farm.
