Sub-tropical environment

The Corni Peroo waterhole in outback Queensland, Australia, may be similar to the environment in central Otago about 15 million years ago, when the climate was much warmer. Open water was surrounded by scrubland and open forest, including eucalypts. Fossils found in Otago show that there were freshwater crocodiles, large fruit bats, and a wider range of ducks and geese than today.
