Story: European discovery of plants and animals
Previously known as Senecio greyi, this endemic small shrub has yellow flowers, and favours the rocky outcrops and bluffs of the lower North Island coast. The drawing was done by the botanist and artist John Buchanan (1819–1898) in the 1860s. From 1867 to 1885 Buchanan was a lithographer for the country’s first science journal, Transactions of the New Zealand Institute.
