Vegetable sheep

Vegetable sheep

Vegetable sheep are unusual cushion plants that grow in New Zealand’s mountain ranges. This species (Raoulia australis) was first collected by E. F. L. Raoul, a French naval doctor. He made substantial collections of plants from the eastern South Island while French naval vessels were monitoring the French settlement at Akaroa on Banks Peninsula.
