Story: Estuaries
A recent arrival from Australia, the white-faced heron (Ardea novaehollandiae) has made itself at home in New Zealand and is now the most plentiful heron in the country. When catching food they are equally adept in estuarine waters (a source of fish and crabs) and on rushlands, where they hunt out frogs, insects and mice.
