Story: Estuaries
Tidal currents bring in tiny organisms and nutrients that help sustain the plants and animals of the estuary. They also move sediments in, around and out of the estuary. At Whanganui Inlet north-west of Nelson, the rushing tide has covered the extensive mudflats of this large and relatively unmodified estuary.
