Closed season for seals (1st of 2)

Closed season for seals

In 1875 legislation confined the hunting of seals to the winter, when they did not breed. As seal numbers continued to fall, from 1894 to 1913 even the limited season was closed. These notices were posted at seal-hunting localities in 1910, in this case at the Port Ross castaway depot on the Auckland Islands.
