Sewage outlet, Ōwhiro Bay

The only indication that there is a sea-floor structure just offshore of this beach at Ōwhiro Bay, Wellington, is the warning sign. Most of New Zealand’s towns and cities are on the coast and pump their sewage through pipes into the ocean. Until the 1990s much of this waste was untreated.
