Alpine grasshopper

Alpine grasshopper

This grasshopper is at Lake Tennyson, in the Southern Alps. Like other insects such as wētā and butterflies, it has adapted to living in mountain environments. Alpine grasshoppers spend most of their time resting, which reduces their energy requirements and allows them to survive in cold, harsh habitats.
