Dolphin at Marineland

In many parts of the world oceanariums have fallen from favour. In May 2008 the New Zealand government rejected a petition asking that Napier’s Marineland be allowed to display captive dolphins after their last elderly common dolphins died. The last of Marineland's dolphins, Kelly, died in September 2008.
